Robin's Nest in 2001

We eventually found the nest on the 2nd of June - there has been a lot of activity, although no sign of an earlier brood. Camera fixed up, very close to the nest this time as it is in a very small hole in the ivy.

5 June

Eggs in NestThere is still serious sitting going on - the nest is only left very occasionally when 7 eggs can be seen. Otherwise Robby is sitting tight but often getting up and moving the eggs around. unfortunately as we do not know when the eggs were laid we cannot guess when they will hatch

Just BornBeing Fed

The first chick hatched at about 8:00 this morning. By the evening all were well hatched. They were kept in the warmth of their mother all day. Who was fed by her mate. (click on the pictures to see a bigger image)

9th June

7 MouthsAnd the work goes on - We now have definite proof that there are 7 mouths to feed - and that the parent cannot always decide which to go for.

10th June

Keeping CleanEvening hungerWell they have been growing well over the last few days, The parents are now spending less time brooding the young and more time searching for food, Both robins are to be seen in the garden all day, flying back and forward.
As you can see from the right they were hungry this evening.
On the left you can see the parent taking the faeces of its young out of the nest to keep it all clean.

16th June

Getting bigAsleepEveryone is very Busy - you can see how much the chicks have grown. Still their main activities are sleeping and eating, see left and right!

Later in June

Well the good news is that all the chicks successfully fledged and are now making a lot of noise around the garden - still keeping their parents busy feeding them

The bad news is that due to a technical failure while I was away we failed to get pictures, I have however got some sound recordings - I will put one up on this site in a few days so that you can hear the chicks begging for food.

Thank all you viewers for your interest -
